Anti Hot Spot Tape

This is a special self adhesive tape made up of several layers that is provided as part of our polytunnel kit. The tape prevents chafing of the cover, protects the polythene from the heat of the tubes and helps increase the life of the cover.

Anti Hot Spot Tape Instructions

Anti Hot Spot Tape is a special chlorine free polyethylene foam tape designed to insulate the polythene tunnel cover from the steel frame of the polytunnel, which can get very hot in summer. It also isolates it from the rough galvanised surface of the steel frame which can cause chafing and weakening of the cover, especially in blustery, windy conditions.
The XL Anti Hot Spot Tape we supply uses aggressive glue which sets about 3 hours after application. We use 3mm thick foam, because then the memory in the foam is not so strong as to lift the adhesive from the frame before it has set.

If you are re cladding an old tunnel make sure that the tunnel is free from dust and all old tape is removed
Press the tape down hard onto the steel work. This will start the setting process and ensure that the tape sticks firmly to the steel and won’t creep round later when it gets hot.
Cover all brackets, clamps etc with tape to isolate all parts of the polythene from the steel, or use strong cloth 50 mm tape

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR OUR POLYTUNNEL KITS WE SUPPLY SUFFICIENT TAPE TO COVER THE HOOPS AND FIXINGS. THE POLYTHENE WILL TOUCH ONLY THE HOOPS WHEN THE POLYTHENE HAS BEEN PUT ON CORRECTLY.

THERE IS NO NEED TO COVER THE RIDGE TUBE, DIAGONAL BRACE, RIDGE WIND BRACE OR CROP BARS.
Do NOT put the Anti Hot Spot tape on until you are ready to put on the polythene cover as initial exposure to the elements may cause the outer film layer to peel off. Store in a dry place
