Understanding how the weather can affect the construction of a Five Star Polytunnel
We are very lucky at Five Star Polytunnels to be able to recommend two teams of installers to erect our polytunnels but we have to understand that bad weather affects polytunnel construction. Both teams are erecting and recovering tunnels right across Wales and in fact teams of good installers are so thin on the ground that they are also travelling into England to install our tunnels there. We recommend them for a reason, they are brilliant at what they do and they are worth waiting for. We do however constantly have to explain how the weather can affect the construction of a Five Star Polytunnel and reassure our customers that although they might have been waiting a while for their tunnel to be installed, its worth the wait in the end.
Every year at Five Star polytunnels we have a spring rush on purchasing a tunnel and even though both James White and Ed Field (07975 535737) are working diligently, there becomes a back log and its inevitable that some customers feel disappointed. We can never really express enough that if you think you want a tunnel, then don’t wait until the spring, plan ahead in the summer. With XL Superthermic Evo polythene and its thermic properties being ideal for all year round growing, you can plant some winter crops, and be fully prepared for the following spring.
This year has been especially difficult, a very wet period left the ground almost impossible to dig in some places and just as things started to dry out, it became especially windy. Although tunnel frames can be built in most weathers, applying the cover is definitely better when there is little or no wind and its dry. Bad weather affects polytunnel construction and can leave customers dissatisfied with the final outcome. The installers have to make some difficult decisions, once the polythene is unrolled there is no turning back and no one wants it to be their cover that gets damaged because the installers felt pressured to turn up on the ‘wrong’ day.
They are being asked for a date or an indication of when they might arrive, and to satisfy the customer they are trying to give a time scale, only then to have a few bad days of weather, pushing everything back, if they have to spend time phoning around everyone rescheduling, that is a day wasted when they could be constructing a tunnel. Every time they take a phone call, they have to down tools and be delayed on the job they are currently doing. If you have asked James or Ed to construct your tunnel, then a gentle reminder is a good idea, but please be patient and rest assured that you will be delighted with the finished product.
